I said last 3 yrs. That's 2020 season. If you're really worried about signings of Giles and White, you're not very smart. Those contracts didn't affect team's ability to do any of the other business it wanted to do. Giles was a flier that you take to build depth in the pen. He got injured multiple times. That's just bad luck. White's contract is peanuts. It hasnt and never will impact the team's ability to make other moves.
He's been here for 7 years- picking an arbitrary point in time is probably what's not very smart. He couldnt accomplish the goal he spent the first three years on, so they moved the goalposts and you're eating it up like a good little Mariners fan because he finally did the bare minimum demanded from his position and put together a playoff team after 7 seasons.
Many of the terrible moves listed were within your time frame including Winker, Romo, Frazier, Giles, not adequately preparing the depth of the team the past two seasons, etc.
Dee Gordon and Yusei Kikuchi were in the middle of their time here in 2020 and had salaries totaling $29M on a payroll of $102M, so do we hold him accountable for them, or is that included in the free pass you're giving him...
Same question goes for continuing to hand playing time to Mallex Smith and Jake Fraley.. "Just give 'em more time!"
All together, the vast majority of the money Dipoto has spent has been wasted on players that bombed.
It's been a gripe of some posters here since his first year when he wasted $30M on trash players like Aoki, Ianetta, Miley and Cishek, and has continued to do so year after year.
They're far behind where they should be at this point because Dipoto hitches his cart to the wrong players, then doubles down on them once they fail.
Maybe he would make a good farm director, but he's not been a good GM.
