They have to trade Randy, in my opinion. Kirby can wait until the offseason if you don't think the right deal is there, but he's ultimately on his way out as well.
They don't have to do anything. I would rather have QO comp that what 2 months of Randy is worth.
I doubt they would offer the QO but they might. It's hard to imagine a player having Randy's year accepting it. But the other consideration is the lockout and the new CBA, which may nix the QO system altogether.

But I'm with you that the QO is probably preferable. Two month rentals tend to not get that much at the deadline.
That's exactly why you offer it.

He's a Boras client, ofc he won't take the QO... you have to offer it to get the draft pick.

I'm aware of how the system works. I just question if the Mariners would take the chance of having to pay a high salary like that.

I don't know if it's a question of risk but the mariners have shown a lack of interest in using the qualifying offer on a player they aren't interested in keeping. Case in point Teo Hernandez. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't qualify him

A Good Trade crazy deadline day
I would love io see Kirby traded today after he goes six innings for a win against the Twins.
I would like to see Randy Arozarena traded today. and Michael Arroyo called up totake his place in the outfield.
I would love to see Otto Lopez take Emerson's spot at short while Colt returns to Tacoma until september
I wold love to see the M's acquire Seiya Suzuki in a trade today
I would like to see Cade come up from Arkansas Monday
I would like to see Mitch Garver traded today and Jhonny Paredes called up
Let.s rock the boat today and wake up the crew

The QO is $22.05M... Randy is making $15.65M this year. A small bump offered to a player about to put up 5+ WAR for 1 year would be a dream, not something you run away from. And Scott Boras does not allow his players to sign QO's lol... it's a free draft pick.

Replying to Donn:

The key difference here is player performance...

Teo was a 108 OPS+ hitter, put up 2.3 bWAR, and only with the team for 1 year. He was not a good player for the M's.

Randy is currently a 140 OPS+ hitter, is on pace for over 5.0 bWAR, and has been a Mariner for 3 years. He has been a VERY good player for the M's.

The two situations aren't remotely similar.

Okay, and they could be happy to have him back. I think that's what it turns on rather than working it for a draft pick

Peralta to the Rays

They gave up former M's prospect Aidan Smith, who has sucked bad for the Rays....and he was about the best thing the Mets got.

If twenty years ago someone had told me a team would have a hard time finding a decent right handed bat, I'd have called them crazy.
